Summer Recommendations
First of all wishing you a wonderful, healthy and fun summer break! I would like to inform you that Dental Clinic STUDIO MOLL interrupts the usual weekly service the whole month of August.
However, we are still available for emergencies only, from August 1st to 7th and from August 26th to 28th starting with our usual schedule on Monday August 31st. Write on Whatsapp (331-6368628) for contact and appointments.
Let’s go through some essential tips to protect your smile during the summer months, divided by focus area:
First and foremost we advise you to maintain as much as possible your daily cleaning habits, because heat changes routine, and vacation increases consumption of sugary foods or iced drinks that expose the mouth to greater risks.
Diet and Hydration, Drink plenty of water: We always advise to drink a lot of water, as constant hydration stimulates saliva production, which naturally fights the bacteria that cause tooth decay.
But limit drinks that contain sugar: juices, iced teas, and cocktails. They increase the risk of cavities, and at the end of the day, they don’t really resolve thirst or dry mouth.
Be careful with ice: chewing ice cubes can chip teeth or damage enamel.
Reduce constant snacking: long snacks prolong the acid attack on your teeth’s enamel, causing sensitivity and decay.
Travel Hygiene and Routine: Always take your toothbrush (preferably electrical) and dental floss, or interdental brushes, with you, even to the beach or on a hike.
Ventilated case: Store your toothbrush in a container that allows the bristles to dry, preventing the growth of bacteria.
Chewing gum: If you’re away from home and can’t brush your teeth, chew sugarless xylitol gum to stimulate saliva that protects your teeth.
Proper brushing: Maintain the rule of brushing your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes, especially before sleeping.
Outdoor Activities and Temperature Sensitivity:
Pool Chlorine: The acidic pH of chlorinated water can, over time, damage enamel; so rinse your mouth with fresh water after swimming. Sea water, on the contrary, does not damage any hard or soft tissues of your mouth.
Sports Injuries: Consider wearing a mouthguard if you participate in high-impact water or beach sports.
Lip Protection: Apply a lip balm with sunscreen (SPF) to prevent sunburn and injury.
Pre-vacation check-up: The best thing to do is get a check-up and a professional oral hygiene appointment before major trips. In Studio Moll we point out your risk areas and we will remove potential problems.
Emergency management:
Always bring first aid medications to pack in case of a sudden toothache. Remember that it is better to immediately calm an upcoming ache, rather than try to treat it when it has become unbearable.
